Accountability, Leadership, Oversight, and Transparency

For students to thrive, school systems need:

  • Accountability

    MCPS needs to accept responsibility for their poor decisions and hold themselves accountable to the community for their actions and those under their command.

    I will help ensure accountability at all levels by making sure that MCPS policies and procedures are not only clear, equitable, practical and well-informed but that MCPS and the Board of Education are also responsive and attentive. Students, families, teachers and staff must be able to easily access and understand the processes and resources available to them and know they will get the help they need.

  • Leadership

    MCPS needs bold, brave leadership to tackle educational inequality, challenge systemic dysfunction, and foster community engagement.

    I will collaborate, communicate, listen to learn and use my voice on behalf of MCPS families and employees to rebuild trust. I will advocate for policies that address the disparities among schools and populations to ensure that leadership at all levels is committed to student success. I will work with families, teachers, staff, administrators and community leaders to develop practical solutions to school safety and behavior challenges so we can get back to the business of learning.

  • Oversight

    MCPS needs rigorous oversight. As an attorney by training, I will encourage the due diligence needed to refine the role and effectiveness of the Department of Compliance and Investigations to ensure that complaints of misconduct, especially sexual misconduct, are handled with the seriousness they deserve so that students, teachers and staff are safe.

  • Transparency

    MCPS needs better communication and must be more forthcoming.

    I will model clear, honest, open and timely communication to prepare students, families, teachers and staff for success at school. This means being clear about the realities of educational and behavioral outcomes, the challenges faced and the steps being taken to address them. I will work to rebuild trust by making sure that all are part of the conversation and the solution.
